Joel debuted "My Life," which he hadn't yet recorded, and I was thunderously impressed by the cynicism of the lines, "They will tell you you can't sleep alone in a strange place/Then they'll tell you you can't sleep with somebody else/Oh, but sooner or later you sleep in your own space/Either way it's okay, you wake up with yourself." The song confirmed my view of life as a solitary marathon, even though, let's face it, I'd never come close to going to bed with somebody else.
