Trichuris
Metazoa Nematoda Adenophorea Trichinellida Trichinelloidea Trichuris

Commonly referred to as whipworms because of their shape, this genus contains approximately 60 species of parasites which afflict mammals.

You will become infected by these worms if you eat vegetables or fruits that are contaminated with their eggs. Following ingestion, the worms will hatch in your small intestine and then migrate to your large intestine. Whipworm infections can cause diarrhea, dysentery, and anemia. In children, heavy infections can cause mental and physical retardation.
