Fasciola:
Metazoa Platyhelminthes Trematoda Echinosomida Fasciolidae
Fasciola
Commonly referred to as the "sheep liver fluke," these parasitic
worms will infect you if you eat vegetation that has been contaminated with their
eggs. After the eggs hatch in your small intestine, the new worms will migrate
through your abdominal cavity, and lodge in the bile ducts of your liver.
Fasciola Hepatica, one of the smaller members of this genus, may wander in your
liver for as long as two weeks before entering your bile ducts, resulting in
severe liver damage. These worms can also infect your lungs and brain. Symptoms
of infection include abdominal pain, diarrhea, fever, and anemia. Particularly
serious infections may lead to death.
