Passage of Time

"You know, it really hurts my feelings sometimes when I will pick up something and read it and it will say, "Too bad Stevie Nicks doesn't weigh 110 pounds anymore. Too bad, that, you know, that totally . . . " They go on and on about how sad it is that I don't look like I did the day I joined Fleetwood Mac. And it's like, Yeah, I'm 30 pounds heavier. But you know what else? I'm 46 years old. And I could have had a 25 year old child, if I had gone ahead and done that. And then I would be who? I would be Mom. And noone would expect Mom - - even if Mom was a total fairy gypsy person - - would expect her to look like she looked the day that they were born. Especially if Mom - - or their eclectic Aunt Stevie had a lot of talent for doing things like sitting at the piano and playing a song for you, or sitting with you in front of a fireplace for three hours and going through different things that she'd written since 1975, about everything and everyone who was famous . . . and could keep you totally enthralled . . .

You know, it's like, I can be in a room full of absolutely beautiful, skinny, very young women. And do you know where the men end up? They end up with me. And do you know why? A really skinny beautiful airhead is forgettable. They walk in, they say this is my name, people say Great, glad to meet you and they walk away and never think about you again.

But I have something that I think is really special. Because I can bring someone to my house, and after you've been here for 24 hours - - you go away a different person. I hope that you'll never forget it. I hope that being with me is an experience that will live in your heart forever. That's what's important to me. And it's especially important to me now.
