When I think of obsessive Stevie Nicks fans, I think of a New York club called Jackie 60 that features an annual event, "Night of A Thousand Stevies", in which Stevie heads, male and female, show up dressed in the likeness of their icon. They wear gauzy scarves, flowing skirts, massive hair, platform shoes. They twirl to "Stand Back", they shed tears to "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?"
We journalists are a jaded lot, used to people being not quite what they're cracked up to be. That's why they call this work: often, we are called upon to slightly pump up a dull subject who has just happens to have a hot record or a hit movie.
